1940 (Mar 12) 4d Registration envelope size H2 from Archdeacon Gill to his brother in England, posted from Ioma franked 1932 2d and 1939 Air 2d pair and 1/- pair (marginal, Ash imprint), Ioma c.d.s (Lee 76) and registration label type R9, violet boxed "PASSED BY CENSOR" applied at Port Moresby, backstamped at Port Moresby and Townsville. Archdeacon Gill wrote regularly to his brother, often with philatelic looking frankings as his brother collected stamps, nevertheless a genuine and very scarce use of this size H2 envelope showing unusually good bluing. 1,000 Envelopes were printed in 1917, its use 23 years later showing how few were actually sold. Minor faults at lower edge, otherwise fine. Photo on Page 212. (Image1)
