1871-78 Sidefaces 'TAS'-in-Bars Watermark 1d salmon Perf 12 SG 150 (unlisted shade) marginal block of 10 (2x5) from right-hand side of sheet, minor perf separation above lower-right unit, couple of tiny aging marks in margin only, stamps fine & unmounted, Cat £1400+ for cheapest listed shade mounted. 1889 Surcharge 'Halfpenny' on De La Rue 1d SG 167 complete sheet of 120 with Plate Number '3' at all four corner positions, units [L25 27 & 55] each with unlisted 'Halfoenny', full unmounted o.g., Cat £1200++ (plus a premium for the unlisted varieties). Ex David Cohen.
1891 Surcharge 'd./2½' on 9d pale blue Overprint Double One Inverted SG 168a, remarkably well centred, characteristic rough perfs, large-part o.g., Cat £700.
1899-1900 Pictorials De La Rue Printing 2½d indigo SG 232 Partly Imperforate at Right due to diagonal paper fold which unusually has not affected the perforations at top, a couple of minor blemishes, unused without gum. Ex Dr Owen Ingles. [Very few production errors are known from the De La Rue printings. Gary Diffen's 'Australian Colonies Errors' did not feature anything similar.]
1904 Surcharge '1½d.' on Tablet 5d with the Surcharge Significantly Misplaced Horizontally corner block of 4 from the L/R of the sheet with Plate Number '1', very lightly mounted. Unlisted in the ACSC.
1905-11 Electrotype Crown/A 1d red 'JBC' Monogram single ACSC T14zc, dubious cancel, ridiculously undercatalogued at $25 (2004); unpriced used. [See also Lot 297889]
1905-11 Pictorials Typographed Crown/A 3d brown vertical pair from L/R corner of sheet Mixed Perf 12½ and 11 ACSC T51 (SG 253c) perforated 12½ all around and subsequently re-perforated Perf 11 at right creating Irregular Compound Perf 12½x11x12½x12½ with Double Perforations At Right, full margins at right & base, upper unit & lower margin with hinge remainders, lower unit unmounted, couple of minor aging marks in margins, Cat $1200++ (£950++) for mounted. Gary Diffen's block of four with two units Mixed Perf - stated to be two of "ten examples known" - sold for £540 at auction on 1.10.2020. Ex Dr Owen Ingles.

POSTAL STATIONERY - POSTAL CARDS: 1908 Visit of the Amercian Great White Fleet 1d carmine-pink HG 13 printed over 'STAMP'-within-box at upper-right, view side with Australian & US Flags & Coats of Arms surrounding 'AUSTRALIANS/[ship]/WELCOME AMERICANS', very fine with just a couple of tiny marks in the gold border, unused. [The decision to issue cards for each of the 'smaller' States was made at the eleventh hour, with a single printing of the 1d stamp for the relevant State over the 'STAMP' box on these semi-official cards; for Tasmania only 2000 were printed, all of which were sold]
POSTAL STATIONERY - REGISTRATION ENVELOPES: 1905 (3d) ultramarine size 100x64mm HG C5, the flap reinforced, unused. Very scarce. [The smallest registration envelope issued for anywhere in the British Empire: it's barely larger than a DLR die proof on card]
POSTMARKS: PPCs each with 1d Pictorial and cds of 'CARNARVON', 'FARRELL SIDING' (rated RR), 'RANELAGH JUNCTION' & 'SHIPWRIGHTS POINT', some soiling

POSTMARKS: '[NIC]HOLLS RIVULET UPR/-5SE27/TAS' superb almost complete strike on KGV 1½d red. Rated RRRRR. PO 1.12.1925; closed 18.2.1929. Only the second recorded strike: Hardinge states "Only one copy known; date approximate as unreadable". He was also unaware that 'UPPER' was abbreviated 'UPR']
POSTMARKS: 'NIETTA/OCT 20 1921/TASMANIA' largely very fine & almost complete strike of double-ring rubber CDS in blue on KGV 2d orange on piece. Rated RRR. PO 1.12.1910; renamed Nietta South 1.12.1922.
POSTAL HISTORY: 1842 entire from Oatlands to Hobart; 1855 part-entire to Kent franked cut-to-shape Courier 4d with squiggle cancel of "Pontville" (postmaster's endorsement at L/L); 1869 1872 & 1875 covers to GB each with perforated 'TASMANIA' 6d (the last torn across the face); 1894 registered to GB with Sideface 1d rosine x8; and 1895 mourning cover to Surrey; very mixed condition.

POSTAL HISTORY: 1912 (Dec 28) cover to a ship's captain c/- Pacific Steam Navigation Co at Panama endorsed in pencil "SS Guatemala" with scarce combination franking of Tasmania ½d + Kangaroos 1d red vertical pair (one with a small fault) tied by Hobart machine cancel to pay the foreign letter rate, poor arrival b/s. [NB: the Republic of Panama is a much scarcer destination than the Canal Zone]
