1861 (May 22) double-rate outer to Scotland "per Benares.../via Marseilles" with scarce franking of Diadems Perf 12 6d purple x2 & 1/- carmine tied by Sydney duplex, light 'LANGHOLM/JY17/1861' arrival b/s, minor blemishes. [NB: the Perf 13 Diadems were issued from 1862]
1861 entire to Sydney being copies of two letters that are continued onto the address panel!, superb 'LIMEBURNER'S CREEK/OC28/1861/=NSW=' b/s (ERD) but Diadems 1d pair cancelled in transit at 'RAYMOND TERRACE' unusually with the cds (another strike on the reverse), Sydney arrival b/s, ironed-out vertical filing fold. Nice item.
1890 (May 10) to Messrs Winch Bros, Stamp Importers with Centennial 6d carmine-pink tied by 'HAYMARKET/NSW - 865' duplex cancel paying the per-UPU ship letter rate to England, 'COLCHESTER' arrival b/s, fine condition. [Issued in late-1888, this 6d had limited use before the 2½d treaty letter rate to the UK was introduced on 1.1.1891, nine months before the Australian Colonies joined the UPU]
1896 (Oct 29) usage of 2d Emu envelope to "Wonga Station, Hay", undeliverable & endorsed "Not at Wonga" with 'HAY/30NOV96/NSW' double-oval rubber d/s in violet struck on face and 'UNCLAIMED' h/s alongside, Sydney 'DEAD LETTER OFFICE' b/s, minor blemishes.
1900 homemade wrapper to "JP McGlinn/Adjutant & Quartermaster/New South Wales/Mounted Infantry HQ/South Africa" with 1d Arms - creased - tied by 'NEWCASTLE/DE19/00/NSW' cds, minor blemishes. Inwards mail to Boer War troops is very scarce.
1903 (March 6) folded-down envelope used as a wrapper with 'GORDON/NSW' cds alongside 'NEWSPAPER/POSTAGE/PAID AT' h/s in red, fine condition. A most unusual usage & handstamp.
1906 (May 26) long cover to New Zealand with Arms 1d red and 'Commonwealth' 9d brown & blue tied by Sydney d/s, 'WELLINGTON/30MY06/NZ' arrival b/s, couple of folds & minor edge faults not affecting stamps. The 9d was issued primarily for parcel and telegraphic use, and is difficult to find on correctly-rated commercial covers. [The rate was 2d per ½oz x5]
