image RARE P.O. MAILCOACH TIME-BILL FOR KING GEORGE III's SPECIAL EXPRESS WEYMOUTH HOLIDAYS SERVICE; Fine Aug./Sept. c.1792 “General Poft-Office…London to Weymouth Time-Bill” (tall album-page size; 12½x9¾ ins) for King George III's special (summer season only) Mailcoach which ran for a few weeks in most of the years from 1789 to 1805, while the King was convalescing at his brother's house in Weymouth. It has the names of Joint P.M.G.’s "Walsingham" and "Chichester" at the top who only served together from 1790 to 1794, so this Time-Bill must date to 1790/94. It has the times added for each stop (from Weymouth via Windsor etc to London) in manuscript (maybe in John Palmer’s own hand). The only other example recorded is in the Bruce Castle Museum; there was no example in Lord Walsingham’s bound set (which was sold ex Martin Willcocks in 1999). [The B.C.M. copy has a note that “This coach is only for the Season His Majesty is at Weymouth”.] Very rare indeed.Cross Reference: EXPRESS, ROYALTY, COACHING, DORSET (Image)
