POSTAL HISTORY: 1950 (Feb 12) cover from Adelaide to "The Postmaster/Cocos Island/Indian Ocean", oval 'COCOS IS/PER ("Islander")' h/s in violet & provisional usage of the earlier 'C&W LTD/5JUN50/COCOS' arrival cds both on the reverse. [The second cds was introduced by 28JAN50. Later & very occasional usage of the earlier cds has been noted]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1959 (Dec 18) cover sent airmail to Victoria with Australia 1959 Christmas 5d 'solo' tied 'COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS/INDIAN/OCEAN/AUST' cds paying the Australian domestic letter rate, couple of minor blemishes. [From the base letter rate increase from 4d to 5d on 1.10.1959, all standard-size domestic mail was carried by airmail without surcharge; this also applied for mail to & from Australia's Territories]
POSTAL HISTORY: 1964 usage of Australian QEII 2/5d Registration Envelope by air to Melbourne with '3' cds of '27AP64' and 'Cocos (Keeling) Islands/Indian Ocean' R label. [Although Cocos' first stamps were issued on 11.6.1963 and replaced the use of Australian stamps, no Cocos postal stationery was issued so Australian issues remained in use] (Image1)
