PRESTAMP PACKET-RATE MAIL TO G.B. INC. RARE PRE-1840 PREPAID COVER, BLUE INK RATES, ETC.; 1838-51 collection of E/ELs to varied British addresses (inc. to Missions office etc. in London and 1843/49/51 trio from Regiments on the island ordering tartan from Scotland - latter two with Caledonian Railway "CR" marks in red or black); the first prepaid (rare pre-1840) with red m/s "2/2" and faint (LKD?) fleuron cds, the others all with fair to very fine sanserif "BARBADOES" cds's and 1/- or 2/- Packet rates (inc. 1846/7 trio with distinctive and very scarce BLUE ink used for the m/s rates). PRE-STAMP 4d/8d-RATE MAIL TO ANTIGUA/GRENADA OR FROM BRITISH GUIANA; Scarce 1845-50 trio of inter-island covers (EL, mourning env. & plain env.) all ex Barbados (with superb or v. fine "BARBADOES" cds's on reverse) addressed to Grenada (1845 pair; 4d or 8d rates; both endorsed "Packet") or to Antigua (1850 endorsed "Steamer") at 4d rate. Plus ingoing 1860 prepaid env. ex "DEMARARA" (small cds on back) with red crayon "8" rate but charged additional internal Barbadian "2[d]" delivery rate with fine larger "BARBADOES" cds as well. EARLY MAIL TO FRANCE - SINGLE & DOUBLE RATE COVERS VIA SOUTHAMPTON TO NANTES OR BORDEAUX; 17 Mar./16 Dec. 1851 EL/E pair from Barbados to France - the first endorsed "P. R. M. Steamer via Southampton", the other "Steamer") with mainly fine "BARBADOES" cds's on the reverse; both sent via St. Thomas with red London transit backstamps and fair to fine red 2-ring "ANGL. 2 CALAIS 2" transit cds's on the front. The first charged the single rate with French h.s. "8" mark (by the S.S. 'Clyde') and the other with manuscript "16" charge (by the S.S. 'Thames'). Plus 14 Jan. 1859 mourning env. ex GB to "Greenland Estate, St. Andrews, Barbadoes" with 6d Lilac tied by v. fine "LIVERPOOL/466" Duplex with fine scarce sideways "9"-code 'Thimble' arrival cds of St. Andrew on the top flap.
