1855 Stampless envelope with NEW YORK 1 SP ‘10’ despatch cds (10¢ collect) to Peterboro, went via Lewiston/Queenston exchange and stamped ‘UNITED STATES 6D’(unpaid) in black, but an additional red ‘UNITED STATES 6D PAID’ was applied in error and over-stamped with another unpaid marking, thence by rail to TORONTO and placed aboard the steamer with very fine strike of 4 SP STEAM-BOAT-LETTER TORONTO cds (CS type III) to Cobourg (same day arrival) and then overland to destination, a clean and most unusual CROSS-BORDER STEAMER cover.
