image J1: Non-regulation postcard mailed with a 1¢ Edward tied by Trenton 23 FE 09 cds to Bismark, Ont, card has an attached ‘envelope’ on picture side, this was not permitted so although card was franked with the 1¢ postcard rate, it was charged at the 2¢ letter rate and was stamped ‘INSUFFICIENTLY PRE-PAID’ and double the deficiency (2¢) was collected on receipt (same day) paid by a pair of the 1¢ violet Postage Due first issue tied by grids, a couple of light card stains, etc, still scarce. image J1,J2: Advertising envelope (cancelled upside-down) sent TOTALLY UNFRANKED from Philadelphia 2 OCT 1918 to Hamilton, cover should have been returned for deficient postage but was forwarded anyway (part of a large batch no doubt) and was rated (Postage Due) ‘3’ on arrival which was collected by 1¢ and 2¢ violet Canadian Postage Due first issue adhesives, both tied by Hamilton 3 OC 18 cds cancels, a clean and very attractive Postage Due cover.
