Small Star, perf. 11 to 12½, an unused horizontal pair of good centering for this stamp, cracked brown large part og. which shows on front of right hand stamp. A pair is the largest recorded unused multiple recorded of this scarce stamp, produced in some haste after complaints by the Colonial Secretary, Edward Laborde, about the 1873 1 s. lilac-rose being too similar in colour to the 1 d. rose-red Gi = £ 1'200+.rnNote: Edward Laborde was somewhat surprisingly happy with the colour of this issue, writing in April 1875 "The colour, although not what was wanted, is better than that of the former supply".rnProvenance: Collection Dale-Lichtenstein, Harmers, New York, 19 Sept 1990, lot 356.
