POSTAL HISTORY: 1908 PPC ('A Chinese High Class lady') with message headed "China Inland Mission/Yangchow/via Chinkiang", to NSW with Coiling Dragons 2c green x2 tied by '[...]OWEH' cds, 'CHINKIANG' 'SHANGHAI' & 'HONG KONG' transits, minor blemishes. [Social message states "...[pray] for me that I may...learn the language quickly". The Mission was established in 1865. In 1868, rumours were spread that the missionaries were kiling babies to make medicine. The subsequent rioting caused the British to send a gunboat to Nanking in a show of force]
