1913 (Mar 8) dealer's cover to Minnesota with scarce albeit philatelic combination franking of Kangaroo ½d green, 2d grey & 3d olive + NSW 2d ultramarine & Victoria ½d blue-green all tied by Sydney cds, red & black/white R label, US 'REGISTERED' h/s unusually in magenta with Seattle transit b/s in the same colour, Saint Paul arrival b/s in purple. Very attractive Five Colour franking.
1913 (Dec 24) double-rate usage of Kangaroo 4d orange Registered Envelope to London with scarce franking of Engraved 1d tied by 'ANNANDALE/NSW' cds, blank provisional red & black/white R label, London arrival b/s.
1913 (Dec 28) cover to a ship's captain c/- Pacific Steam Navigation Co at Panama endorsed in pencil "SS Guatemala" with scarce combination franking of Tasmania ½d + Kangaroos 1d red vertical pair (one with a small fault) tied by Hobart machine cancel to pay the foreign letter rate, poor arrival b/s. [NB: the Republic of Panama is a much scarcer destination than the Canal Zone]
1914 (July 16) Melbourne-Sydney Maurice Guillaux PPC correctly rated with Kangaroo 1d red tied by a superb strike of the double-oval flight cachet in violet, Sydney arrival cds of 18JL14, unusually clean & fresh but creased at U/L. [The address "Altson's Corner" - usually wrongly given as 'Alston's Corner' - is an 8-storey Edwardian building on the corner of Elizabeth & Collins Streets, built for tobacconist Henry Altson in 1903-04]

1923 (July 23) use of KGV 5d Sideface Registration Envelope with Flap Folded to the Face & Address Lines at L/L ACSC RE13, to Massachusetts with scarce franking of KGV 4d ultramarine, Brisbane cds & red/white R label, four different Boston backstamps, redirected twice finally to across the street from the original address!! [The rate was 4d for the first ounce + 2d for the second ounce + 3d registration = 9d]
1926 (July 20) large parcel piece (folded to 226x207mm) with complete Farmer's of Sydney address label & post office 'PARCEL POST SYDNEY NSW/Farmer's' numbered label, Third Wmk 6d brown pair (both damaged before being affixed) & 9d violet - all with elaborate 'F' perfins - tied by undated 'CHIEF/PARCELS OFFICE/SYDNEY' roller cancels. Ex Kevin Nelson. [The rate was 1/9d for an intrastate parcel weighing between 5 & 6lb. The Post Office supplied Parcel Post labels bearing the user's name to large volume users: very few have survived. Farmer's, a department store founded in 1840, also operated radio station 2FC]

1932 (Sept 2) to "Monaco Ville, France Sud" endorsed "Air Mail via Adelaide Perth" with KGV 1d green & Airmail 6d tied 'LATE FEE RIALTO/VIC.' cds paying 3d foreign surface rate, 3d domestic airmail surcharge plus 1d late fee, 'MONACO-CONDAMINE/1-10/32/PRINTE DE MONACO' arrival b/s, a couple of minor blemishes. Attractive internal airmail acceleration on cover to unusual destination.
1932 (Oct 7) to Czechoslovakia endorsed "Per RMS Baradine via Fremantle/Adelaide-Perth and Karachi-London Airmail" and with 'LATE FEE' cachet in violet alongside West Australian Airways 'TRANS-AUSTRALIAN AIR-MAIL' label, franked with KGV 1d green (torn before affixing) and Airmail 6d x2 tied 'LATE FEE/SPENCER ST VIC' cds paying 3d foreign letter rate, 3d internal airmail surcharge and 6d Karachi-London airmail fee plus 1d late fee, Athens transit and Gablonz '-2 XI 32' bi-lingual arrival b/s. Scarce destination with a wonderful array of supplementary charges.
1933 to Germany with Airmail 3d x3 tied Sydney '12FE33' cds paying 3d foreign surface rate for carriage by ship to India plus 6d surcharge for Imperial Airways Karachi-London airmail service, also carried by German airmail with red 'MIT LUFTPOST BEFORDERT/ZWEIGLUFTPOSTAMT/BERLIN-/ZENTRALFLUGHAFEN' cachet on face applied at Berlin airport, 'BERLIN-25.3.33/a/ZENTRALFLUGHAFEN' arrival b/s, a couple of minor edge faults.
1933 (June 15) usage of KGV Oval 5d Registration Envelope endorsed "Airmail/Aust Karachi London" amended by the sender to "Aust Air Mail" and uprated with KGV 3d blue x3 & 4d olive tied by 'OUT OF COURSE/ 2... /SYDNEY' cds, blue & black R label with Rat's Tail (fault), Perth transit b/s of 19.6.1933. Presumably posted in a letter slip at the GPO. [The rate was Empire letter 2d per ounce x2 + 3d per half-ounce domestic airmail supplement x3 + 3d registration + 2d late fee for a registered article + 1/6d]

1938 (Apr 28) double-rate British & Foreign Bible Society cover to London with rare franking of 1937 Perf 13½x14 1/- Lyrebird John Ash 42mm Imprint strip of 3 tied by Melbourne cds, a couple of very minor blemishes.
1938 airmail to Perth with Great Britain 1½d meter x2 paying double Empire Airmail Scheme rate, recovered from the crash of the Imperial Airways Flying Boat 'Calpurnia' with both the Sydney 'DAMAGED BY WATER/THROUGH ACCIDENT/TO FLYING BOAT' boxed cachet in red on face and the Perth roneo'd explanatory label (Sandford 381127qq) on back, plus another large envelope with Christmas Charity Appeal contents carried on the same flight with the Perth label only on back. 'Calpurnia' left London on 23.11.1938 and crashed upon landing at Lake Ramadi, Iraq on 27.11.1938, killing four of the seven crew on board. Attractively distressed pair & ideal for display.

[Hungary did not formally join the Axis powers until November 1940]
1940 (Mar 3) commercial airmail cover to "Beograd" (Belgrade), Yugoslavia with KGVI 3d Die II & Hermes 1/6d, with enclosed letter written in German (?). A very scarce WWII destination because service was suspended on 10.6.1940 when Italy ended the war.
1940 (Dec 19) Clipper cover to Massachusetts with Lyrebird 1/- block of 4 tied by 'HORNSBY/NSW' cds, 'BOSTON, MASS/BACK BAY ANNEX' arrival b/s, redirected to a ship soon to depart from San Francisco with Air Mail 6c Eagle tied by a different '.../BACK BAY ANNEX' cds.
1940 (Dec 18) triple-rate cover to Kent with scarce franking of CofA Wmk 2/- + 6d Kookaburra and Robes Thick Paper 5/- & 10/- (small defects) tied by 'AIR MAIL SECTION/MELB VIC' cds, minor blemishes. [An unusually high franking on a small cover, paying 5/10d per ½oz x3 = 210d = 17/6d]
1941 (Apr 15) airmail cover to England with 1/6d tied by 'MANLY/QUEENSLAND' cds, no censor label or cachet but with a superb strike of the very scarce 'RELEASE' h/s, readdressed to Northants, part of the flap is missing.
1941 Cairns (Qld) 'OPENED BY CENSOR' resealing label (rouletted at top & base), ' 1/3 /PASSED/BY/CENSOR/ [ ] ' diamond cachet (without number at base) in violet applied in transit on face of cover to USA with Papua Pictorials 3d Dandy tied 'PORT MORESBY/30DE38/PAPUA' cds. [The Cairns civilian censor station operated from late-1940 to late-1941/early-1942 only; by April 1942 many of the civilian population had been evacuated (as Cairns was in range of Japanese bombers) and Australian & US troops had begun moving into the area, bringing military censorship stations with them (as also happened at Darwin)]
1941 (Aug 2) double-rate Clipper cover from a Brisbane Car Dealership to Chrysler in Michigan with KGVI 3d Die III & 1/4d magenta pair + 5/- Robes, red/white censor label tied by superb censor cachet in violet. [The rate was 4/- for the first ½oz plus 3/11d for each successive ½oz]
1941 usage by Australian serviceman "S/Sgt PM Pederson, 12th Rec Sect, AIF" (return address) of airmail covers with printed 'POSTAGE PAID/25 CENTS/MALAYA' in red from Singapore to Australia, one with the indicium at U/R as usual and 'FIELD POST OFFICE/2 OC/1941/SP 501' cds, the other unusually with the indicium applied at top-centre and 'AIF FIELD PO/11SE41/No 19' cds alongside, minor blemishes. [Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15.2.1942]

1942 (May 16) cover endorsed for airmail in Australia only with KGVI 3d blue Die III pair tied by 'AIF FIELD PO/No 23' cds used in Ceylon, Indian-pattern triangula censor h/s in violet, Strathfield arrival machine b/s. Rare. [Australian forces returning from the Middle East were diverted to Ceylon, where they remained for only 6 weeks]
1944 (May 5) to Eskilstuna, Sweden with KGVI 2d violet and 2½d red pair tied Sydney cancel paying the 7d rate for carriage by ship to Great Britain and onwards by airmail, censored with Sydney label & cachet at left and British label at right partly covering oval 'O.A.T.' cachet in violet applied at London to signify "Onwards Air Transmission", a couple of minor blemishes. [This special rate was introduced as mail could not be carried by surface to neutral Sweden due to the German presence in the North Sea; the mail was carried by RAF planes transporting war supplies between Sweden and the UK]
1945 (June 18) usage of POW airmail envelope to Malaya with 5d Ram tied by 'ARAMAC/QLD' cds, censored at Melbourne as usual, received after the war ended in September & endorsed "RTA" (= Returned to Australia"), small piece of the flap missing.
1946 (May 24) commercial airmail cover to "RAF/British Forces in Greece/MEF" with ½d Kangaroo, 1d QM, 6d Kookaburra & Peace 5½d pair (rarely seen multiple on cover) tied by Sydney cds, minor creasing due to the thick letter, which is enclosed.
