Back of the Book 1875-1978 & Sheets 1857-1957 - November 22, 2014

The first portion of the sale contains rare die proofs, imperforates, plate blocks/strips and inverts of material not shown in any Brigham exhibit. Material that was Mr. Brigham’s joy to view can now be yours to own: Airmail, Special Delivery, Officially Sealed, Officials, Postage Dues, Registered Letter stamps and Revenues. As well, there are 165 lots (87-252) of an extensive and comprehensive collection of the 1915-1916 Admiral War Tax issues. The second portion of the sale contains over three hundred full sheets of proofs, stamps and imperforates starting with the 1859 Cents issue and continuing all the way to the early Elizabeth II issues. This section includes full sheets of Small Queens; of all three Registered Letter stamps; Back-of-the-Book material and even Revenues. Mr. Brigham started collecting them to ensure their preservation and to delay their being broken up. Although he would like them to survive, he is fully aware that even if they are unique, as is the 8¢ Registered Letter Stamp (Lot 546), this likelihood is remote. Technology has made it possible for theses sheets to survive in a digital world. There is something in this sale for everyone; from the student of an issue to the large lot collector.
