Confederate States, Pleasant Shade, Va., 1861, 5¢ blue (Scott 67X1), barest trace of toning, Very Fine, an exceptionally attractive example of this very rare provisional, one of only two known used off-cover stamps, illustrated in Crown's Surveys of Confederate Postmasters' Provisionals (Quarterman edition, page 300) (Scott $15,000; CSA Handbook #PLE-VA-01, $10,000), position 4, margins huge to just touching at the upper right, tied on a small piece by a Very Fine blue "Pleasant Shade, Va, Apr 23" c.d.s., Very Fine, ex Caspary, Weatherly, Erivan, with a 2020 P.F. certificate.
