1852, 3¢ dull red, type I, unofficial "Chicago" perf 12½ (Scott 11 var.), a magnificently centered example, tied by bold, full strike of "Chicago/APR/24/1857/Ill." postmark to blue cameo corner card cover to Indianapolis, the cover from E.S. Wells, who made and sold "Ladies' & Gents' Boots & Shoes, of all styles"; the stamp is flawless, the cover with backflap removed and several expertly repaired edge nicks or tears, Very Fine, ex Gross, Hackmey, LeBow & Keightley, with 1991 P.F. certificate.
