image Long Island, 1916, 6d black on thin wove paper, "Rvenne" for "Revenue" (SG 35a), carbon copy, plate 3, position 13, without gum as issued, a wonderful example of this great rarity with balanced full margins; very minor natural creasing mentioned for complete accuracy, otherwise Very Fine, ex Marquess of Bute,

This error occurred solely on plate 3, position 13. Only three were printed, with just two now recorded, the other in similar condition with light creasing. Certainly a key stamp for any serious collector of this intriguing issue.

The enclosed letter datelined "Itandeluku, Corisco, W.A., Friday, Jan'y 16 1863" is from the missionary R. Hamill Nassau to his sister. The 13-page letter concerns a proposal to send sketches of local fruits, as well as plans and a sketch of Nassau's house.
