Scandinavia: Greenland, 1945, Inverted Liberation overprints, 1øre-5kr complete (Scott 19 var.-27 var.), a fabulous used set, bright and fresh, Very Fine. Virtually never available as a complete set—only 400 of each value were produced and very few were used. Facit 19-273; SKr 50,000 ($5,200).
This set was taken from a set of blocks of 4 that were used to frank nine 1959 registered covers sent from Søndre Strømfjord, Greenland to either Riis Skov or Copenhagen, Denmark. Each cover was franked with a block of a different invert, the lower values with additional postage added from the then-current definitives. Each of the singles offered here was the upper right stamp in its respective block. Accompanying the lot are photocopies of 1969 Svend Grønlund certificates for eight of the nine original covers. The 30ø certificate has been lost, but included is a 2016 letter from A.P.S. expertizer, Jerry Birdsall, guaranteeing that value. Scott $9,400 Suggested Bid $4,000-6,000 (Image)

Scandinavia: Greenland, Airmail Semi-Official, 1932, Rockwell Kent Official Reprint, 10ø brownish red, without gum as issued, bright and fresh, Extremely Fine, with a 1993 H. Pollack certificate,
While involved with a German film-making company that was filming a movie in Greenland, acclaimed artist, Rockwell Kent, who lived in Greenland at the time, produced a stamp to be used on letters flown from the expedition's base camp to a working camp close to the icecap. Kent himself carved the woodblock from which a small number of stamps (75 or so) were rather crudely printed. Upon his return to the U.S., Kent authorized the New York City firm of Pynson Printers to make a second printing of 200-300 examples using much finer printing methods, after which he defaced the woodblock and donated it to a museum. Suggested Bid $350-500 (Image)
