image Group of 140 World War II Royal Canadian Navy Covers and Cards, note a great selection of censor handstamps, mostly straight lines, as well as some censorship re-sealing tapes, with lots of covers from both coasts. Note many black-out machine cancels as well as N.P.O. cancels. Note a US Navy in Newfoundland postcard back to the US and includes mail from Canada to the UK, USA, Newfoundland as well as incoming from the UK, USA and Newfoundland. Some items are ex John Frith. image 1916 "Killed in Action" Soldier's Letter returned to Sender in an Ambulance Envelope, mailed from Saskatoon and sent to Lieut. D. Atheson with the 24th Canadians, B.E.F. France, arrived at F.P.O. 4.W on NOV.29.1916. Manuscript "Killed in Action" on front along with the signature of whoever wrote it. Cover returned to Canada and received at the Ottawa dead letter office on JAN.22.1917, opened to discover its sender and was placed in an O.H.M.S. envelope and mailed to Miss. Clara in Saskatoon. The O.H.M.S. envelope is missing its back flap, else very fine. (Image)

image Group of 4 Force Canadian Military Covers from Jamaica, 1940-1943, includes a NOV.5.1940 Winnipeg Grenadiers cover sent surface to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with censor officer's signature at left and 3 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Rgmt. covers from December 1942 and January 1943. All 3 covers sent at the 6d airmail rate, one sent to Halifax and the other 2 to Hamilton. The 2 Hamilton Ontario covers are from Lt. McLean and sent to his wife or mother, both with censor handstamps. Halifax 1942 cover is not censored but has a Y-Force return address on the back. This cover has faults at edges as it is a rather large cover, the other three are very fine. (Image)

image Group of 4 Boer War Covers, 1900-1901, includes a first contingent - A Coy, 2nd Bn. Royal Canadian Regiment cover mailed "Field Post Office / British Army South Africa / FEB.24.1900" c.d.s., arrived at Victoria BC MAR.30 and Chemainus the next day. Also a "Canadian Contingent / South Africa / JUL.9.1900" handstamp on a cover to Australia. This is the second handstamp. Also a Canadian Contingent envelope with the Maple Leaf on back to Windsor Ontario, arrived in Canada in JAN.1900, this cover has major faults. Last is a South African Constabulary - "C" Squadron, Heidelberg from #2187 Trooper W.G. Woodliffe, Bloemfontein to Elmvale, Ontario mailed on DEC.1.1901, with London PAID DEC.21.1901 handstamp on front and Elmvale receiver JAN.7. The 3 better condition covers all have faults, ranging from minor, to a piece missing. (Image)

image Group of 38 Military Airgraphs, 1942-1945, airgraphs were filled out by service men and women then microfilmed. Film cartridges were processed in Canada and then the airgraph entered the mail system - this was to save valuable cargo space on aircraft. This lot includes 16 scarcer illustrated airgraphs for holidays, such as Christmas and Mother's Day. Note airgraphs from Ireland (first day of service), Middle East Force, 8th army in Africa, Mediterranean Force, Italy, Ceylon and New Zealand, as well as a Canadian Navy Sailor Service stopped JUL.9.1945 but resumed for one day only on JUL.11, with a JUL.11 included in this group. Also 22 non-illustrated. Some with envelopes but as the War progressed some were sent without envelopes, just folded. Saw a few faults but mostly very fine. (Image)

image Basutoland and Lesotho Group of 130 Covers and Cards, 1899-1976, with 11 covers with Cape of Good Hope stamps mailed from Maseru and Thlotse Heights, plus 2 Cape of Good Hope postal stationery cards mailed from Morija to Cape Town, all ranging in the 1899 to early 1900s period. Also George V Silver Jubilee FDCs, 14 other FDCs from 1938-1966, three 1933 and one 1936 registered covers to South Africa, a Maseru cover for a DEC.15.1938 first flight from South Africa to the Netherlands and a 1940 Basut to France cover with South Africa censor tape and a "Mail Service Suspended" handstamp. Also 57 covers with Scott #45 with what appears to be different town cancels, and 37 mostly first day covers from 1966 to 1976, also about 50 cut squares with Basutoland cancels on South Africa stamps from 1929 to early 1930s. image British Commonwealth Group of 60 Registered Covers Sent to British Columbia from 1933-1945, all addressed to the same person in Heffley Creek BC from a number of different countries, as this person ordered new issue stamps from those postal administrations. The fresh coloured stamps include some single frankings, also noting many 1937 Coronation issues, mostly in the form of sets. There are many O.H.M.S. covers and a few mailed internally within Canada, and we note a plethora of interesting postmarks including despatch, transit and receiving markings, with many RPO, etc. Good variety of different countries, many of the covers are oversize and fine to very fine, see scans for a representation. image Cape of Good Hope Two Fake Covers Made with Genuine Stamps, first fake is attributed to A. A. Jurgens, the author of Handstruck Letter Stamps of the Cape of Good Hope. Robson Lowe regarded Jurgens as a forger. The pair of genuine 6d triangles originally with a fiscal cancel that has been removed then added to cover with fake "Missent To Cape Town" marking. Second cover is with a genuine 4d, not tied and possibly not belonging. Good reference items, both still in a 1972 South African auction folder. (Image)

image China 1941 Peking Registered Postage Due to United States with officially Sealed Label, the cover was mailed at Peking on AUG.13.1941 to Illinois (franked in part with Scott 4N18, cat $165 used), with several interesting handstamps including "Supposed Liable to Customs Duty (crossed-out), a St Louis Customs "Passed Free" double circle, a "Letter Package / Collect Ten Cents (all in purple on front), "Held for Customs" in purple on back, as well as datestamps from Shanghai AUG.16.41, San Francisco SEP.29.1941, and finally East Saint Louis OCT.7.1941. The cover also has a registration label applied at Peking and an United States Officially Sealed label applied at East Saint Louis. Bit of aging, still a most interesting cover. (Image)

Also a group of 86 covers with special event and pictorial town cancels (1939-1973, but mostly 1960s), a group of 7 first flight covers (1958-1967) as well as 4 stationery cards mailed from 1880s to 1945, the latter was mailed airmail to New York and censored in Denmark and the US.
