image 1941 90c Airmail Cover to Australia, Via Pan-Am Clipper Service, mailed at Vancouver FEB.20.1941. Would have flown San Francisco to connect with a Pan-Am clipper flight to Australia. Australian censor re-sealing tape at left, tied to cover by a "Passed by Censor / S.81" Sydney censor handstamp. Franked with a 50c Vancouver Harbour plus two #242. Vertical fold at centre plus some minor edge creases and a small tone spot. Scarce rate. (Image)

image 1938 $1.06 Rate Registered Airmail Cover to Bermuda, sent to a member of the Royal Navy on H.M.S. York via the Fleet Mail Office at Bermuda. The rate of $1.06 includes 10c for registration plus six times the 15c per ¼ oz. rate for a letter up to ½ oz., plus 6c for surface rate which was not needed and included in the airmail rate. Franked with a 50c Vancouver Harbour issue plus a variety of other issues. An attractive multi-colour franked cover with minor edge creases, else very fine. (Image)

image 1930 25c Rate Registered Airmail Postcard to Germany, the rate includes 10c registration and 15c for airmail, both in North America and Europe. Mailed from Halifax AUG.21.1930 and sent by train to Moncton (see RPO c.d.s.), arrived Moncton AUG.22 and sent by air to New York where it arrived the next day (transit on picture side), then by sea to England and airmail to Germany, where it arrived SEP.2. This card is pictured on page 75 of the "Airmails of Canada 1925-1939" by Arfken and Plomish, who say that registered postcards are scarce, if not rare. Very fine. (Image)

image 1930 19c Rate Registered Airmail Postcard to Germany, mailed in Montréal on AUG.23.1930 and arrived in New York by air the same day, then by ship to Germany, where it arrived in Bremen on SEP.4, and then on to Chemnitz. The 19c rate includes 10c for registration, 6c for airmail to USA and 3c for the U.P.U. postcard rate. Arfken and Plomish in "Air Mails of Canada 1925-1939" state that registered airmail postcards are scarce, if not rare. Very fine. (Image)

image 1937 50c Rate Airmail Cover Vancouver to Trinidad, franked with #226, the 50c Victoria Parliament issue to pay for the double rate of 25c per half ounce. This rate was only in effect from JUL.1.1935 to DEC.15.1937. The cover was mailed at Vancouver on JUN.28.1937 and arrived in Port of Spain, Trinidad on JUL.2.1937. Very minor edge creasing, and light vertical fold, otherwise very fine. (Image)

Mailed in Montréal on NOV.27.1934 and sent by sea to the U.K., then flown via Imperial Airways to Brisbane. Blue crayon added in the U.K., as cover is registered, arrived Melbourne on DEC.23 then re-directed to Sandringham, where it arrived on DEC.24. image 1936 75c Rate Pan-Am Clipper Cover to Hong Kong, mailed on DEC.19.1936 at Vancouver, flown by Pan-Am to Manilla, where the clipper service ended in 1936 and addressed to the First officer of the Canadian Pacific ship Empress of Russia. The rate was paid by a 50c Victoria Parliament buildings issue plus a #222 and 225. Rough opening at top, fortunately mostly visible from the back only plus a few minor faults, still a scarce cover which also adorned by a Vancouver Golden Jubilee cinderella. (Image)

image 1917 Winnipeg to Bahamas Special Delivery Cover, mailed at Winnipeg on JAN.29.1917 and franked with a 2c + 1c War Tax Admiral coil single, plus a Bahamas 5d Queen's Staircase (E1) single, addressed to Nassau Bahamas, with FEB.5 receiver on back. During a short period, Bahamas Special Delivery stamps were sold in Ottawa, Toronto, Westmount (Montréal) and Winnipeg post offices and could be used on mail destined there, and cancelled upon arrival. Very fine, and desirable as Winnipeg usages are the scarcest. (Image)

image Group of 105 Barrel Cds Postmarks on Cover, from various Canadian cities. Not checked in detail by us, but this lot appears to include some early usages and frankings. Retired dealer stock (some sleeved and priced up to $25). A Mix of #8 and # 10 sized covers in mixed condition, but overall the quality of the strikes and covers is fine to very fine. A good lot for the specialist which also includes some on piece or stamp which were not counted. (Image)

image 1882 Great Western Railway Post Office Cancel Variety, on a 3c Small Queen cover to Waterdown, the cancel should read "G.W.R. / Accom." but this strike reads "C.W.R." and there is no trace of a vertical stroke on the far end of the "C". Even without this variety, the postmark is RF "F" in Gray (RY-77) and was in use for less than 4 years. Cover has contents and 3c SQ stamp is tied by a fancy cancel. Rough opening at right, else very fine and interesting. (Image)

image Group of 5 Better Railway Post Office Items, 1871-1951, includes an 1871 cover to Pictou, NS with an MT-163 RF "F" H & P.R / = N.S = cancel applied twice, once on the cover's stamp and a second clear strike at bottom left. Also a closed mail dispatch notice from Boston to St Pierre & Miquelon with 5 R.P.O. cancels, including MT-164.03 (RF "F"), an ON-25.5 (RF "G") on a facing slip and WT-628 (RF "G") on a facing slip. Lastly, TS-74 square cancels on back of a cover from Newfoundland. This strike is not listed in Gray, but was an RF500 scarcity in Ludlow and includes a letter from Ludlow to the owner at the time saying he will list it in his next catalogue. A few faults here and there, still a useful lot. (Image)

image Group of 120 Modern Flag Cancel Covers, 1967-1996, note covers from BCPEX, BNAPEX, ORAPEX, Joseph Howe and many more. There is a good variety here, but a fair amount of duplication. Better flags noted include 111-1A invert variety, with a second blank flag, 111-1A normal inverted flag (x8), 111-1 commercial mail, all from 1976 KAPEX in Peterborough, also flag 123-3 (x6), 127-1 and 101-3 sent via Pony Express, also a late use of 100-2 from OCT.2.1973. image Group of 3 Different Montréal Squared Circle Datestamps, 1895-1902, includes a Type III as a backstamp on a cover from Boston to Toronto, a Type IV as a backstamp on a 2d registered envelope from Trinidad to Montréal, with the stamp missing from the front, and a Type V backstamp on an oversized registered mourning cover from France to Montréal, with minor edge faults. In the latest Squared Circle Catalogue the Type III is RF60, Type IV is RF 70 and the Type V is RF 110. A nice clean group. (Image)
