3d Red Beaver Imperforate on 1857 Illustrated Advertising Cover, mailed from Hamilton on JUN.5.1857 ("changeling" datestamp at left) to Norwichville C.W., with Norwichville and Paris backstamps, both dated JUN.6. The cover has a lavishly illustrated embossed corner card advertising for the Newbury & Birely company of Hamilton in blue-black, and is franked with an extremely fine example of the 3d red Beaver with four large and balanced margins, neatly tied by a crisp 4-ring #16 obliterator which has an RF 7 on Pence issues (only used in the Pence era), and an early example, as the first 4-ring numeral known is dated from March 1857. A lovely cover in all respects, which possesses many desirable attributes, extremely fine and easily worth more than our starting price. Ex Guilford (1994), Carrington (2002) and Cantor (2011). 6d Grey Violet Consort on Thick Paper Imperforate on 1859 Cover, mailed from Galt on OCT.14.1859 (datestamp at left), to New York State and franked with a three margin 6d imperforate Consort on thick paper (USC #5d), tied by (presumably) 4-ring #13 obliterator (RF 6 on Pence issues). The stamp has a tear at bottom (not mentioned in accompanying 1999 Greene foundation certificate) and cover has insignificant faults, still fine overall. (Image)
10d Blue Cartier on 1859 Cover to England, mailed from Belleville to Wivelitscombe, England through Montréal on JUN.2.1859 (backstamp), with Liverpool Packet transit of JUN.15.1859 on front and received at Wivelitscombe on JUN.16. This very fine cover is franked with a lovely and extremely fine 10d blue Cartier imperforate, with four large and even margins, properly tied by a target cancel. A lovely cover in all respects, mailed just before the changeover to the decimal currency, accompanied by a 1977 Philatelic Foundation certificate. Rsv. $3,000. (Image)

Way. / No.2 / b / Down railway datestamp (Gray #QC-424, RF D) dated JUN.21.1859. The folded cover is franked with a very good centered perforated 3d Beaver tied by three partial strikes of the 4-ring #45 in blue (RF 8 on Pence issues). Interesting routing instructions telling where this small village is located. Stain at top left, still overall very fine. (Image)
Perforated 6d Brown Violet Consort on 1859 Folded Outer Cover, mailed Montréal on JUN.21.1859 to Roxburg, Massachusetts and franked with a 6d perforated Consort which is tied by a 4-ring #21. 1862 1c Printed Matter Rate Mailed Newspaper, a cut-down first page header of The Globe, dated November 25, 1862 and forwarded to Mr. John Fleming in Dundas, franked with a 1c Queen Victoria First Cents issue tied by a faint, 4-ring #13 (RF 7 on Cents issues) from Galt. Light repair at top of newspaper does not detract, fine and scarce. (Image)
Group of 25 First Cents Issue Covers, 1859-1869, includes seven 1c covers, including a faulty one paying an 1862 circular rate on a price list from Havillan Routh & Co. of Montréal to Nova Scotia. Also 16 5c Beaver covers and a cover front, including two covers with two 5c Beavers to the USA and a faulty 10c rate registered double weight cover with the registration fee paid in cash. Note a 5c cover to Borelia, with a Borelia backstamp dated JUN.22.1864 (office only open from 1863-1872) which is accompanied by a Greene Foundation certificate. Also a #15 on cover with a RY-203 Welland Rail Road backstamp, only in use 1864-1876. Lastly, a faulty 10c Prince Albert cover to the USA. Other than faults mentioned above, balance is mostly fine or better, with one trimmed cover and a few with minor creases or tears. All are scanned online. (Image)

Two 5c Beavers on 1862 Cover to Pennsylvania, mailed from Hamilton on JUN.11.1862 (neat duplex) to Easton, Pennsylvania, the cover is franked with two very fine 5c Beavers with bright colour paying the 10c cross-border rate. 1c Small Queen on 1873 Promissory Note, a dull orange yellow 1c stamp (11.85 x 12, manuscript cancelled by SEP.22.1873 date) is accompanied by two Montréal printing Bill Stamps (perf. 11.6 x 11.85), all used to pay the tax on a private $25, 6 month promissory note from Clinton, Ont. Couple of stains and wrinkles, still a rare use for any Small Queen, and described by John Hillson as "Possibly the only such combination known". (Image)

1900 Registered Uprated Postal Stationery Cover to Switzerland, a 2c QV stationery cover, mailed from Paris Ontario on APR.4.1900 to Berne Switzerland (APR.16 receiver on back), through the Toronto, Hamilton and London railway (RPO dated APR.5), Hamilton (APR.5 "R" c.d.s.) and London England (APR.14 oval registration c.d.s.). The 2c cover is uprated with a 1c and 3c Small Queen, plus a 2c Map and a 2c on 3c Leaf issue, making for the 10c UPU rate. Very fine and colourful cover. (Image)

Then sent to Dead Letter Office and received there on AUG.6, (large c.d.s. on back) then with AUG.9 large broken circle on back.
