image Group of Free Franked and Meter Franked Covers, 1892 to 1949, includes 10x 1931 to 1949 corner card advertising covers franked with various meters, including one from "Bowaters Corner Brook". Also 21 covers free franked, including many OHMS stationery covers (note purple, blue and black inks), mostly all from the St John's Post Office, but also note one from the Supreme Court / Sheriff's Office, one with oval Department of Supply, and some with "Postage Paid / G.P.O. / St John's NFLD handstamps (one of these mailed from Harbour Grace in 1920), all mailed locally, to Canada and many to United States. Also 5 others including one franked with a German stamp (passed through the mail in 1924), a 1944 censored cover to Toronto with Postage Paid / G.P.O. triangle in blue, a cover with a different triangular Postage Paid / G.P.O. / St John's N.F. handstamp and a cover mailed without stamps to Port aux Basques with three 2c Postage Due stamps tied by Channel datestamps. Also threw in a Canadian House of Commons (Alfred Gibault MPP) free-franked cover from 1913 with interesting contents explaining how he has difficulties reciting his texts at the House of Commons because of all his missing teeth. Overall fine to very fine with a few faults here and there. (Image)

image 1858 3d Triangular on Cover, mailed from Bona Vista (SEP.6.1858 c.d.s. on back) to Carbonear (receiver on front) and franked with a large margined 3d imperforate (showing two neighboring stamps) just tied by pen cancel to small cover with red wax seal on backflap. Vertical creases and staining, still a scarce franking and fine cover with a catalogue value of $3,000 in Unitrade. (Image)

A #26 on large piece with Harbor Grace OCT.17.1869 datestamp and same date docketing on back, a #27 (small faults) on cover front mailed St John's MAY.13.1869 to Halifax and a #28 on orange cover (small faults) mailed from Twillingate on NOV.7.1871 to Poole England (DEC.4 receiver on back), through St John's (backstamp) and Liverpool (DEC.3 transit in red on front). We note a good variety of better postmarks as well, noting Little Bay Island, Burnt Bay, Kingsbridge, Greenspond, Twillingate, Trepassy, two covers with #235 in grid cancel, etc. Destinations include inland, to Canada, to Nova Scotia, to the US and to England and there are many correct single frankings. image Group of Covers Franked with 1897 Discovery of Newfoundland Issues, with 25 covers total (plus a front), with a good variety of franking covering every denomination. We note several single frankings such as for example a 6c on registered cover to Moreton's Harbour (with rare boxed St John's datestamp on back, first we've seen), a 10c on registered cover to Wisconsin, another on registered cover to New York, 15c on registered cover to Winnipeg, 24c on registered cover to England, 30c on registered cover to New York, 35c on registered cover to Austria and 60c on registered cover to New York. A mostly fine or better group, with one being repaired (back re-glued on) and some other various faults, one was mailed in 1955 and a few have some earlier issues used to uprate. All scanned online.
