Jul 1" (1851) date of issue double oval cancel, numerous notations on the back side including (from the recipient) "Nellies letter received July 2nd 1851, Answered July 4," also (in Chases' hand) "Paid in manuscript under thew stamp to indicate to the postmaster that the letter was to be sent prepaid.
