1941 (19 Sep) Camp de Vernet, 80c Iris French postal card addressed to Paris, with "Camp de Concentration Vernet-D'Ariege / Le Vaugemastre" cachet, sent from Pamiers/Ariege, handstamped "Inadmis" (inadmissible), also "Controle au camp du Vernet D'Ariege" censor cachet on back (Le Vernet Internment Camp, or Camp Vernet, was a concentration camp in the French Pyrenees. It was used during the Spanish Civil War, first for Republican refugees and others of the International Brigades, under the legitimate French government and then, as of May-June 1940, under the Vichy government after German occupation. Starting in 1940, the camp was used to imprison members of the resistance and opponents of the Hitler, Mussolini and Petain regimes.
