The block is from one of 24 color trials for the 2s6d Postage Due made at Somerset House from a Royal Mint miniature plate of four clichés. The trials took place on four dates between September 8, 1923, and January 21, 1924. This particular proof, in Dahlia Claret, was pulled in the third trial on Dec 6, 1923.
