image 1904, 5c blue, left "PANAMA" 2¼mm below bar on cover with normal (Scott 2 var, 2), variety is position 31 or 36, only 156 issued, fine, tied by CULEBRA, July 11, 1904, circular postmarks with matching 7-bar CANAL ZONE cancel on neat cover to Colon with Cristobal (July 12 on front) transit and Colon (July 13 duplex) backstamp, Culebra was one of the tougher small towns (a total of 29 first issue covers are known originating from there), the "normal" stamp has a slightly shifted PANAMA overprint exposing a portion of the PANAMA from the adjoining stamp which appears to have the colon between PANAMA and bar variety, a nice bonus; insignificant tropical toning, a Very Fine cover, only 282 5¢ covers reported of which only 11 are from CULEBRA.
