Hawaii, 1863, 1¢ black on grayish, "1" with intact top serif. Plate 4-A, type IV, position 4, touched to ample margins, without gum, F.-V.F. and extremely rare variety. Scott No. 15; $650 for normal.
This variety is noted in Westerberg "Plating the Hawaiian Numerals" with only one single and another in a block of 8 being the only recorded examples at that time. Another example was offered in the Advertiser Collection however the variety was not identified.
