1909, $1 violet brown. In combination with 1914, 20¢ ultramarine (419) on portion of registered St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank cover, tied by "St. Louis, Mo." oval handstamps, Very Fine, very rare, even on piece usage. Scott No. 342; $6,000 on cover; Estimate $500 - 750.
The Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis officially opened on November 16, 1914. The bank likely purchased a supply of postage stamps, which would have included remaining supplies of the little used dollar stamp. The large envelope or package was addressed to another FRB branch.
