Camp Moloney was named for Sgt. Joe Moloney, the first American to die in Switzerland during World War II. Located in Adelboden, it was the first internment camp for American internees. AN EARLY SERVICE SUSPENDED TRANS-PACIFIC USE SENT THE DAY AFTER THE JAPANESE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR WHEN TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE WAS SUSPENDED.
After the Japanese December 7th 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, trans-Pacific flights west from Hawaii ceased. Mail to Japanese-occupied places was returned to the senders, as was the case with this cover addressed to Hong Kong.
