image Bermuda, 1864 H.M.S. "Phaeton", Bermuda to Surrey, England. Cover endorsed "From Isaac Dawson Seaman, H.M.S. Phaeton Bermuda" with initials of commanding officer below, franked with G.B. 1855 1d red tied by barred "50" handstamp, red "London, Jy 18, 64" cds and forwarding cds on reverse; stamp with slight corner wear and cover with small tear at left, F.-V.F., a rare naval cover usage from Bermuda, ex-Ludington.
Estimate; $1,500 - 2,000.

On November 1, 1861, H.M.S. "Phaeton" was commissioned at Chatham for service on the North America and West Indies Station under Captain Edward Tatham. He remained in command until August 24, 1863. Captain George Le Geyt Bowyear replaced Tatham on the North America and West Indies station until March 24, 1865.
