image Mexico, 1864, Eagle (1st Period), 4r green, without district overprint. Block of 15, o.g., never hinged (gum skips at right affecting two stamps), fresh with rich color, large margins all around, Extremely Fine, the largest known block of the 4r 1st Period Eagle issue without overprint, with 2010 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

This block is not to be confused with the common remainder/reprints. The main differences on the 4r is the darker color and that the design height is 1mm taller than the remainder issues. A block of 4 of the remainder issue accompanies this lot for comparison.

Cons 21, upper portion of stamp tied by oval Allende handstamp (Schatzkes 146) on folded letter sheet Santiago, Very Fine, Doug Stout (the foremost expert in this issue) believed this to be thin figure and described as such, with 2007 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

AN EXTREMELY RARE BISECT EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 100C FULL FACE HIDALGO ISSUE.

In combination with 1868, 12c black on green, Matamoros, both cons 9-71, and additional 1868, 12¢ black on green, Tampico, cons 39-71 cut from an uncanceled letter, on July 1872 folded letter from Matamoros to Guanajuanto, carried privately by agent Enrique Duprat of Tula de Tamaulipas with oval handstamp on reverse, entered the mails in San Luis Potosi with 1872, 12c blue + 25c red, San Luis Potosi, cons 37-72 affixed and all stamps canceled by fancy "Franco" handstamps (Schatzkes 1461), Very Fine, a unique unaccepted demonetized and postal fraud usage bearing stamps from three different districts, ex-Rosenthal, signed Lamy, Goebel and Calves, with 1987 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

This cover not only was sent 3 months after the 1868 Full Face Hidalgo issue was demonetized, but was initially franked with stamps from two different districts.
