The Legislative Council granted £100 annually for three years for a steamboat to carry the mail once a week between Windsor and Parrsborough, and Horton and Parrsborough, and £50 for the sailing of a schooner between Guysborough and Arichat touching occasionally at Fox Island and Canso.

image Nova Scotia, 1851, 1d to 1s Reprints on Thin Hard White Paper. Matching bottom left corner margin blocks of four, exceedingly fresh, without gum as issued, Extremely Fine, a beautiful set of reprint blocks.
Scott No. 1R/7R; Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

Reprints were made in 1890 on the authority of Mr. Haggart, Postmaster General of Canada and the plate subsequently destroyed. Probably five sheets were pulled (Lichtenstein in 1938 mentioned six sheets of the 1d, the sheet consisted of 120 stamps only compared to 160 in the other values). Most of these reprints were passed to Hon. W.S. Fielding when Minister of Finance (Premier of Nova Scotia 1884 to 1896). Senator Calder and Lichtenstein purchased the reprints from his estate in 1929. One set in sheets was given to the Royal Philatelic Society, London on April 7th 1938 when Lichtenstein gave a display on Nova Scotia. After keeping examples for their collections the balance was sold to R. Roberts of London who split them.

Scott No. 1; Estimate $10,000 - 15,000.

THE ONLY RECORDED PENCE AND CENTS MIXED FRANKING RECORDED FROM NOVA SCOTIA. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CENTS PERIOD USAGES.

The 1860 Decimal issue was printed by the American Bank Note Company in sheets of 100 and the 1st printing was put on sale on or about October 1st. Pence stamps were withdrawn from sale at the end of September 1860, but could still be used legally in October. Later usages were tolerated.

This cover was carried by Cunard Line "Canada" from Halifax to Boston arriving Oct. 5th where 5¢ inland postage charged to New York. The 1d stamps equaled 2c postage.

Pence and Cents mixed frankings are rare in Canadian philately with this being the only example known from Nova Scotia, while there are only three from Canada and four from Newfoundland.
