THE ONLY RECORDED SIGNED PRESENTATION EXAMPLE OF THIS FIRST DESIGN LARGE DIE ESSAY FOR THE 1886 2¢ GRANT LETTERSHEET.

This large die essay is also known unsigned in blue on ivory (E837a), and blue on white wove (E837c) with inscription "Presented by Asst. P.M. General Hazen to C.L. Webster". The former realized $3,850 in 2005. Andrew Jones was the vignette engraver and Charles Skinner the frame engraver.
