image 1868 12½c Blue Large Queen on Watermarked Bothwell Paper, a used group of eleven stamps, each clearly showing a variety of clear letters of the watermark. A variety of postmarks include 2-ring #9. We also noted one stamp with "no outer frameline at left of value tablet" (UCS 28ii). There are a few shorter perfs here and there, still a sound group and catalogued as all fine, even though a few are very fine. A rarely offered stamp in such quantity, and would be a great start to a full watermark reconstruction on this value. (Image)

image 1868 15c Large Queen Old Time Reference Collection of Shades, with 16 distinct shades, all still on their original album page, annotated in calligraphy with all the shade names and possible dates of issue. Additionally, 12 of the stamps are illustrated in L. Gerald Firth's 1963 publication Canada the fifteen cents of 1868. Some faults noted and centering ranges from fine to very fine. A very useful reference group for the specialist. (Image)

image 1868 15c Large Queen Old Time Reference Collection of Papers, with 13 stamps (incl. a pair), annotated in calligraphy with all the shade names and paper characteristics. We note better items such as a #30c (thick paper, with tiny thin), a 29c (very well centered, clearly showing "CLU" of the Bothwell watermark), a horizontal pair identified by owner as the "Pirie Paper" (although we did not see a watermark, and it appears to perf 12) as well as some perf 11½ x 12 stamps. The roman numerals used to identify the papers appear to be those used by L. Gerald Firth in his "groups", listed on pages 41-44 of his 1963 publication Canada the fifteen cents of 1868. We have removed the stamps from their original album page (included in lot) as they had been mounted face side down, but have kept all the descriptions next to them (see scan). Some faults noted and centering ranges from fine to very fine. A very useful reference group for the specialist. (Image)

image Valuable Collection of Fully Dated 15c Large Queen Stamps, all presented in chronological order on a stock page, each stamp with day, month and year. There are a total of 37 stamps here, obviously with many shades and unchecked for papers or other varieties, but note many nice socked on the nose strikes from small to large towns, mostly c.d.s. and broken circles, but also squared circles and note a Montréal c.d.s. with inverted "95" year slug. Nice overall quality, overall fine or better and a useful lot for the Large Queen specialist. A rarely offered lot. (Image)
