1931.AUG.10 Croydon to Shanghai Flight by the American Aviators Charles and Gladys Day, with two covers, both franked with a 1a KGV and ½a pictorial definitives and both addressed to Stephen Smith in Calcutta, both also have a handstamped date "3 SEP 1931", the day the couple actually left Calcutta. The first cover was flown from Calcutta to Rangoon bearing a photographic vignette of Mrs Day tied by the "American Flyers" 3-line cachet. Second cover is similar but with a different cachet in the shape of India. Both have a second strike of the purple cachet on back. Both very fine and scarce, with only 14 covers flown. (Image)
