image 1873 Registered Cover Front with 16c in Small Queen Franking, mailed registered from Erinsville U.C on SEP.8.1873 to Toronto (SEP.11 receiver), through Tamworth (SEP.9) and Napanee (SEP.10), franked with 1c (x4) and 6c yellow brown (x2). There is a "PAID" handstamp under the two 6c stamps and evidence of a pen written "17" under two of the 1c stamps. An interesting rate on an obviously reduced cover, which might have been affixed to a parcel, etc. (Image)

image 1892 10c UPU Registered Dead Letter Office Cover to England, mailed Brantford on MAY.31.1892 to London England through Hamilton (JUN.1) where the clerk noticed it was overweight ("returned for postage" handstamp), and sent it to the D.L.O (JUN.2) who would have attempted to find the sender. Either this was unsuccessful, or the sender did not respond, in any case there is no indication the cover would have reached its destination. Franked with a pair of 1c and a 3c, plus a 5c RLS, all cancelled by cork cancels. Overall very fine. (Image)

image 1888 Seven Times Rate Small Queen Cover to Scotland, mailed from Charlottetown PEI on SEP.18.1888 to Edinburgh, Scotland (OCT.2 receiver on back) with "PAID / GLASGOW / PACKET / 2 OC 88 / 1 +" c.d.s. on back. The cover is franked with a 2c and 11x 3c SQ (strip of 10 plus single), all tied by cork grids. The cover was carried by the Allan Line Polynesian departing Québec SEP.20 and arriving Liverpool OCT.1. Opening tear at left affecting the 2c, else overall very fine. (Image)

image 1874 Quadruple Pre-UPU Rate Small Queen Cover to England, mailed from Bathurst NB on AUG.17.1874 to Whitby, England (SEP.1 receiver) via Dalhousie NB (AUG.19 datestamp on back), endorsed "Farther Point" (misspelling for Father's Point, or Pointe-au-Père, just north of Rimouski, Qué.). The cover is franked with a strip of 4 of the 6c SQ from the elusive "ghostly head plate" in a deep yellow brown shade (perforated 11½ x 12, left stamp repaired and scuff on third stamp), all tied by oval grids, paying four times the 6c per ½ oz rate. Bit reduced at right and other small faults, else overall fine. (Image)

image 1893 3c SQ Deal Letter Cover to California, mailed from Montreal on FEB.27 (1893) to the USS Ranger, off the coast of San Francisco, California, endorsed "c/o Navy Pay Office". arrived MAR.6 (receiver c.d.s.) then Vallejo later in the same day (duplex on back) where it received two oval handstamps in purple reading ADVERTIZED and UNCLAIMED. Address crossed off and handstamp added reading "U.S. Navy Yard / Mare Island, Cal.", with Vallejo, Cal redirecting duplex dated MAR.31. There is also a notation which appears to read "Desiesed" [sic}. Cover ended up in the US DLO on APR.11, then Canadian D.L.O. with three different postmarks on back, dating between APR.22 and MAY.2.1893. An interesting cover, with a small tear on front, else very fine. (Image)

image 1891 Sextuple Rate Small Queen Cover to Scotland, mailed from Montreal (yearless duplex MAY.7) to Edinburgh, Scotland with MAY.18.1891 receiver on back, endorsed "via New York per S.S. Servia" but the "TOO LATE" handstamp indicates that it missed that steamer and would have thus been carried by the Allan Line Sardinian which arrived Liverpool on MAY.17. The cover is franked with six 5c SQ (one is damaged), all tied by neat rosette cork cancels. Nice red wax seals depicting a beaver, with "Pex Severance". Fine-very fine. (Image)
