Philippines Guerrilla Mail, USAFFE, Southern Cebu Forces, complete set of four values, 2c and 4c on pink US bond paper, 16c and 20c on white US bond paper, without gum as issued, Very Fine and rare as most were destroyed after the warrnThe "USAFFE" on these stamps is shorthand for the "United States Armed Forces in the Far East." The "SCF" is "Southern Cebu Forces." Although the Japanese occupied the northern part of Cebu Province in 1942, the southern towns were under the control of the Southern Cebu Guerrilla Force under the command of Lt. Col. Harry Fenton. Because the southern Cebu cities were not occupied by the Japanese, postal service was restored to 18 towns. These four emergency stamps were issued for the prepayment of mail during this brief window, with the 2c and 4c paying regular postage, the 16c paying the registry fee, and the 20c paying for special delivery. The low values were printed in sheetlets of 10, while the high values were printed in sheetlets of eight with four stamps on each side of the paper. (Image)
