image Engineering Detachment HQ at Harpers Ferry, cover and letter, the cover postmarked with "Harpers Ferry VA OCT 29" circular datestamp, to Rileyville, Tennessee, the letter on scarce color letterhead depicting a soldier being treated for his wounds while a battle rages in the background, the writer discusses having to pay for lost clothes, and "also I lost my gun and equipment," continuing his note a few days later from Berlin, Maryland, by saying "we find ourselves eight miles below Harpers Ferry where we have lain a bridge," sent only a month after the Confederate victory under Stonewall Jackson, a very fine letter.
