The Express Mail service from Albany to Buffalo encompassed a total of 8 different railroad route contracts. This letter was carrier east over seven of the railroads. In July 1842 the Expressman, William F. Harnden was contracted to supervise the carriage of the mails on the full route. He employed two agents to accompany the car the full distance. Remele has never seen this marking on a letter, however in addition to this cover, we are aware of one other cover with this marking which is franked with 1857 3¢ issue. The same marking is often seen cancelling revenue stamps from this border depot.
