image 6d Queen Victoria Set of Post-Contemporary Reprint Die Proofs, in 10 colours or shades, each on card stock measuring 97 x 64 mm. According to Kasimir Bileski, these were printed in England from the original die in about 1940 and sold publicly to raise funds for the British Red Cross, prior to the plate being transferred to the museum of the Royal Philatelic Society, London. image Collection of "Cents Issues" Plate Proofs, with the 1c (sheet margin block of four in black, sheet margin block of four in orange and strip of three, all on thin paper), 3c (block of three in rose red on thin paper plus three Tilleard-printed singles in black) and 12c (single in purple on wove paper with corner crease in margin, and three Tilleard-printed singles). The non-Tilleard proofs in this lot appear to be contemporary (or at least late 19th century), and we have only seen very few comparables, most of which were in Sparks Auctions' January 2018 offerings of the L.S. Crosby collection of PEI. (Image)
