Eastern Auctions Ltd. Sale - 318

Mail Auction - March 9, 2022

BARDABOS & CANADA - In 1884 Canada was a young country, just seventeen years old in fact.  In that year the influential Barbados Agricultural Society proposed that their country join Canadian Confederation. The two countries have had a long standing and substantial trade in such things as molasses, rum and sugar (imported by Canada) and lumber and codfish (imported by Barbados).  As I sit here in our cold January weather, it sounds like they had a great idea.  Many Canadians head south during the winter and it would be very convenient for travel if a Caribbean island was part of the country.  The idea never came to fruition of course, but in more recent years there has also been talk about the Turks & Caicos Islands possibly joining Canada.  One can only hope!

Over 1,900 lots are included in this mail auction, which closes on March 9th.  As usual you will find extensive Canada with classic Victorian stamps, Admirals and a good section of scarce revenue stamps.  The Queen Elizabeth II era is outstanding with over 160 lots including many seldom seen errors and varieties.  Newfoundland is also strong and features several items from the 1910 John Guy Issue, not to mention a rare $2 Transportation Tax (Lot 3185).  Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway are among the better represented countries in the foreign section.

If you are also looking forward to travelling, remember that we will be attending  two international shows next year in London, England and Toronto respectively.  It’s always nice to combine a vacation with a stamp event!  Full details of these shows are available on their websites: www.london2022.co and www.capex22.org

We continue to improve our website and welcome your suggestions for further changes. Visit at www.easternauctions.com.  Please remember to bid early, especially if mailing your bidsheet.  Good luck in the auction.
