65 image 1813 O-108 (R3) near VF. The distinguishing feature of this coin is Liberty's distinct double profile. What appears to be rim damage is actually the result of the edge inscription being too close to the obv die. A late die state w/ the obv crack connecting stars 1 thru 4 just beginning to show. 69 image 1826 O101a VF attractive eye-appeal. For decades, numismatists assumed that Bust Halves were used only by the commercial banks of the day to hold reserves and had little use in actual commerce. But that view is now changing as result of more in-depth research by numismatic scholars such as Roger Burdette and Robert Julian. While half dollars did represent significant purchasing power in the first half of the 19th Century, they were produced by the millions, and many survive in rather worn condition - clear evidence that these coins did play a significant role in day-to-day transactions, similar to the role that a higher denomination bill such as a $50 plays today.
