Lot 2 - 2VAR, 10¢ GRAY BLACK, XF, with light red grid cancel and showing part of the stamp below. This particular stamp also shows (2) of the horizontal background lines extending to the left frameline and on the right to about ½mm past the right frameline and into the right side of the oval. Since plating is completed for this issue, it might be possible to determine it's sheet position. 1991 Philatelic Foundation certificate, which doesn't mention the variety Cat($775)....$1,250 Sold for US$ 1,050


Sam Houston Philatelics Sale - 3088

Mail, Phone and Internet Sale 3088 - December 22, 2021

Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday December 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains over 700 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights include the following:

  • UNITED STATES, There are about (160) U.S. lots, with (16) Classic and Grilled issues including some scarce items, for example the dark brown variety of number 1 (Scott 1a), the gray black variety of Scott no. 2; the stitch watermark variety of Scott no. 7 and gorgeous copies of Scott no.'s 12 and 13. There are a few Banknotes and a NH copy of the 4 cent Columbian (no. 233); a few (about 16) Exposition and 1890's Regular issues. Also, about (70) lots of Washington Franklins, including a used copy of no. 594 with certificate. You can also find a nice variety of 1930 to Date, about a dozen Graded issues with PSE certificates.
  • COVERS, There are (36) Cover lots - (15) Commercial, and (63) First Day Covers that include several hand-painted items and some seldom offered cachet artists.

  • MISC. ITEMS, Includes a couple Literature items and a few Supplies type lots.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, Contains (40) lots of Airmails and Back of Book issues that include some early Air-post issues, with a $1.30 (Scott C14) Zepplin with gorgeous color; Special Delivery, Postage Due, Newspapers, Revenues, and Shanghai Overprints.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, (20) Lots of EFO's are offered. There are several mis-perfs, plate flaw, omitted and mis-aligned colors, Interesting lots.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, includes (142) lots from a variety of countries. Special items include a Great Britain 1a 1p Intense Black, Position M-C, Great Britain 2 2p Blue, Plate no. 2, Position 5-L,, Italy-Aegean Isl-Rhodes 15-23 5c-10L Complete Set of 9, Ryukyu Islands 1//R23; an extensive collection, and a Bahamas 313//901 Collection on stock pages. There are some must see items here for the Foreign stamps collector!

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are (3) Autograph lots with one lot having (7) signatures including Alf Landon and Sherwood Anderson on sheets of 1940 Olympic poster stamp sheets; also a cover signed by astronaut John Glenn.

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS, PRINTS (Federal, Junior and State) contains about (269) lots, which includes (3) Federal Duck Collections and several License lots and related items, there are (12) Junior Duck stamps, (27) Plate Number Singles; of which (11) are graded. There are (83) Federal lots, (7) Mini-sheets and (17) Errors, which includes an RW60 with the black engraved color completely missing - a great addition to enhance your duck stamp collection! For the Press sheet collector we have a selection of (10) lots of various varieties, in various configurations. Also, we have (40) Artist Signed Federal stamps, including an RW17 signed by artist Walter Weber. There are a variety of State duck stamps and Governor's Editions (15), and a couple Conservation and Fishing. To finish the sale, you will find (7) Federal Duck Prints, including a nice RW14 by artist Jack Murray (#129/300).
