Dear Philatelists:
With the stunning rise in the Canadian Dollar from 88¢ in June 2007 to $1.10 in November 2007, Canadians have been on a spending spree. Cross border shopping is rampant. This phenomenon spills over into philately since the Scott 2008 catalog prices are now a bargain. We have seen Canadian collectors exercising their new spending power at stamp auctions where they are winning 20%-30% more lots against American and foreign competition. We will be curious to see if the trend continues and how Scott will handle the 2009 prices, particularly with American and Canadian stamps.
Ron Leith Auctions will once again share the stamp weekend with Steveston Auctions who will conduct their sale on Friday night March 14, 2008 followed by our auction on Saturday evening March 15, 2008. We will both be at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel at 7311 Westminster Highway in Richmond, which is situated just two blocks west of the Richmond Inn where we normally hold our auctions. The event is shaping up to be a fun stamp weekend including a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Bourse. See you there!
