This is one of the most outstanding covers to Brazil we have ever encountered. The stamps are beautifully arranged, the cancels and rate markings are clear, and it is in a wonderful state of preservation. The addressee, James Monroe, was a professor, U.S. congressman, and U.S. consul in Brazil during the Civil War.
