VERY FINE. A COLORFUL AND RARE FRANKING PAYING THE DOUBLE 45-CENT RATE TO BRAZIL BY BRITISH MAIL VIA ENGLAND.

This is one of the most outstanding covers to Brazil we have ever encountered. The stamps are beautifully arranged, the cancels and rate markings are clear, and it is in a wonderful state of preservation. The addressee, James Monroe, was a professor, U.S. congressman, and U.S. consul in Brazil during the Civil War.
