Double Transfers on Plate Three
Lot Sym. Lot Description

Position 10R3 with major double transfer, original gum, full to large margins including part of right sheet margin, intense Prussian Blue shade, sharp impression showing double transfer lines, a few dips in fluid were needed to decide that there is a tiny thin speck (which might only be in the gum) and faint wrinkle-crease, really inconsequential

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE TOP RIGHT CORNER POSITION OF THE RIGHT PANE OF PLATE 3, SHOWING A MAJOR DOUBLE TRANSFER. PROBABLY THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THIS POSITION EXTANT.

The Neinken book (page 227) discusses the presence of five major double transfers in the tenth vertical row of Plate 3 Right, indicating that Toppan Carpenter experienced problems entering the first column on Plate 3.

The double transfer is listed but unpriced in unused condition. Scott Retail for normal Plate 3 position with original gum. (Image)
