673   Schermack Ty. III, Punch Controls. Collection of 31 used stamps on pages various 1c and 2c issues, the arrangement was a square of nine (one is an experimental 12 hole) with varying combinations of holes/missing holes, these can be "decoded" and were used by many prominent businesses in New York and Chicago, of course if a pin or two broke off, the "code" would change generally Fine-Very Fine, fascinating lot

674A   Schermack Ty. III, 1c and 2c 1908-09 Issue, 12 Hole Punch Control. One 1c and five 2c, the experiment started with a 12 pin die forming a square with letter designations from "A" (top left corner, all the way through "L" (bottom right corner), after a short period of use the pins began to break off and fewer holes were punched into the stamps, "Broken Pin" experimental patterns are extremely rare and four stamps in this lot (two missing four pins, one missing five pins and one missing six pins) are the only known examples, important lot for the specialist
