VERY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY DESIRABLE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1869 15-CENT TYPE I.
With 2009 P.S.E. certificate. The P.S.E. Population Report lists only three No. 118 stamps with original gum----graded 80, 85 and 95 (one of each) (Image)
FINE. A RARE 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE VARIETY.
With 2008 "decline opinion" P.F. certificate which reads "it is a genuine Scott 118, without a trace of a grill, but due to a lack of original gum, decline opinion with respect to whether this is the 'without grill' variety". As the P.F. notes, there is no trace of grill. The dark shades and proof-like impression of this stamp further reinforce its "without grill" classification, original gum notwithstanding. (Image)
