VERY FINE. AN ATTRACTIVE AND SCARCE ORIGINAL-GUM IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER STRIP OF THE 1895 $1.00 WATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE, COMBINING BOTH TYPES.
The $1.00 1894-1895 Bureau Issue was printed in plates of 200 subjects. The plate consisted of fifteen vertical rows of Type I and five vertical rows of Type II, which accounts for the scarcity of Type II compared with Type I. There are only ten positions on the plate which yield combination pairs, and only two which yield imprint and plate no. multiples. This is the first we have offered in over two years. (Image)
FINE. A RARE BLOCK OF THE 1895 $1.00 WATERMARKED ISSUE, WITH THE LEFT STAMPS TYPE I AND THE RIGHT STAMPS TYPE II. AN ESPECIALLY RARE MULTIPLE IN USED CONDITION.
The plate of the $1.00 1894-1895 Bureau Issue consisted of fifteen vertical rows of Type I and five vertical rows of Type II, which accounts for the scarcity of Type II compared with Type I. There are only ten positions on the plate which yield combination pairs. The layout of the plate and the fact that very few used blocks are known of either type make this used block a great rarity. Scott assigns a $1,300.00 premium for a combination block of four compared to two combination pairs. (Image)
