One pane of 100 was printed with "Canal Zone" inverted. There were two positions on the pane with "Panama" reading down and up: Positions 1 and 100. Position 100 is unused, and is offered in the previous lot. The example offered here was also used on the first day of use of the cancel at Culebra.

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE VERTICAL PAIR WITH "PANAMA" READING UP ON TOP STAMP AND DOWN ON BOTTOM STAMP.

The "Panama" overprints were applied using the "work-and-turn" method. One half of the pane received the overprint and was then turned to overprint the second half. Only 260 pairs were printed. Of these, only eighteen are recorded, including two in vertical strips of three on cover.
