VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE RAILROAD PROPAGANDA ENVELOPE PREPARED FOR THE CHORPENNING ROUTE.

Jun. 14" circular datestamp on yellow cover to Marshall Mich. with "Overland, via Placerville" Chorpenning Route illustrated railroad propaganda design, depicting locomotive, coal car and three passenger cars, "Published by JULIUS JACOBS, Post office Literary Depot, FOLSOM, Cal." imprint below train

EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS RAILROAD PROPAGANDA DESIGN, WHICH HAS THE "VIA PLACERVILLE" CHORPENNING ROUTE DESIGNATION. A FABULOUS WESTERN COVER.

Folsom City is located between Sacramento and Placerville. Its proximity to the Chorpenning Route warranted the production of envelopes with the "via Placerville" route designation. However, these envelopes must have seen very limited use, because all are rare, and this cover is the only known example of this particular design.

EXTREMELY FINE. AN IMMACULATE EXAMPLE OF THIS EXCEEDINGLY RARE WESTERN RAILROAD PROPAGANDA DESIGN WITH THE CHORPENNING ROUTE DESIGNATION.

Fewer than eight examples of this railroad propaganda design are known to us with the "Via Placerville and Salt Lake" Chorpenning Route designation. The same design is more common with the "Via Los Angeles" Butterfield Route designation. This is one of the two finest of the known covers bearing stamps.
