EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1857 TYPE IV IN FULLY IMPERFORATE STATE. A GREAT RARITY, WHICH IS KNOWN TO SPECIALISTS BUT IS NOT YET LISTED IN THE SCOTT CATALOGUE.
Dr. Chase's note on back reads, "8R10E. This appears to be an imperforate stamp. It is not from the left margin of the pane. C.C." The second sentence recognizes that a top left corner position stamp might have large enough margins to trim, but that this stamp comes from an interior position on the top row, which would make the huge side margins more indicative of a completely imperforate stamp.
Ex Beals and Piller. With 1988 P.F. certificate as "fully imperforate" (Image)
